Being funny in marketing is risky. When it works, it’s great. But it fails more often than it works. You have to ask yourself the following question:
Are you trying to be funny for the sake of being funny, or are you being funny to prove a point and further enhance the sale?
One thing that you need to know is that using humor in your marketing is that it's typically safer to do with your current customers - as opposed to using humor with new prospects.
I'm sure you see ads on the TV all the time that uses humor. One of the well known ones that I know of are the Progressive Assurance commercials. I think this is a great way to use humor, all while effectively pointing out the benefits of using their services. If you've ever seen these commercials, then you know what I mean.
Remember, humor isn't always necessary. But if you're planning on using it, make sure it's for a good reason.
